VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Curate “Gentle Reads” titles

The Alaska Digital Library website has the ability to “curate” titles into patron-friendly groups. One popular grouping is for titles which are considered to be “gentle reads”.

“With charm and humor, these novels explore the everyday joys, frustrations, and sorrows of lives quietly led. They typically revolve around the activities of a small community of people, such as a small town, a church, or a gathering of friends. We could use volunteers for two tasks:

• Task A – Review current list of titles to verify that only those titles meeting the definition are included.
• Task B – Search the catalog and make a list of titles that we own which should be included in this list.

Volunteers do not need to get approval to start a task; just follow the instructions and go!

INSTRUCTIONS

Task A – Review current list of titles to verify that only those titles meeting the definition are included.

Review the list at the bottom of this page. You can sort by title or by the first author’s first name. Using your expertise in readers’ advisory identify any titles that do not meet the definition of “gentle reads”. Copy and paste those titles into an email and send to info@aklib.net. Estimated time: 15-30 minutes.

Task B – Search the catalog and make a list of titles that we own which should be included in this list.

Search the catalog at http://AlaskaDigitalLibrary.net and identify any titles that we own but are not already on the list below. You may start by looking over the list below and then using your expertise in readers’ advisory search for other titles/authors. Copy and paste those titles into an email and send to info@aklib.net. Spend as much or as little time as you like with this task; any suggestions will be helpful.
